2019 IBMN Annual Indoor Workshop

Recommended for: All interested parties

Description: The 28th annual IBMN workshop will take place Saturday, March 9th, at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum in Chicago. The keynote speaker this year is Tom Velat, Ecology Coordinator at the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County. His talk is titled Baltimore Checkerpsots Are Remarkable! A Detailed Look at the Population Demographics and Management of an Iconic Butterfly in DuPage County, Illinois.

He is involved with many wildlife related management programs at the District, however his first love is butterflies. Tom will describe the Baltimore Checkerspot mark-recapture study that is currently underway and discuss in detail how the District manages for the species. He will review some of the interesting things learned during the 9-year study and highlight some of the future directions of the project as well. Tom is also a 13-year volunteer monitor for the IBMN.

This will be a great opportunity to warm up in our Judy Istock Butterfly Haven before we kick off the 2019 training season. We hope to see you there.

It says “One Way” pointing out but that is the way to go in during the off-season. There is also parking available for a fee in the Lincoln Park Zoo parking lot.
