Note for Macintosh Users

People using the Internet Explorer 5 browser on the Macintosh have encountered a problem using the new data entry and defaults entry forms. The forms use a feature called option groups to divide the species list and site list into categories. The species list is divided into groups by major types such as swallowtails, and the site list into groups by county. In other browsers the headings for categories show up as bold text which cannot be selected. In Internet Explorer 5 for the Macintosh, they tried to make the sub-groups separate pull down menus, but this does not work with our data entry form. There are several ways to resolve this problem:

  1. Macintosh computers which have Internet Explorer usually come with another web browser which should work with the data entry forms.
  2. The Firefox web browser is an excellent browser which works with the data entry forms and can be downloaded free of charge.
  3. The Netscape web browser also works with the data entry forms and can be downloaded for free.
  4. You can also go to a page where you can disable the use of option groups in the data entry forms. This will work with the Internet Explorer 5 browser on the Macintosh, although the interface is a little awkward.
